Project 1: Multi-Faceted Self

This project will be due on 2/11

Part 1 Due On 1/30

Project 1 Brainstorming Blog Post:

  • Look at student work and artists listed below, choose at least one to respond to. Use these examples as inspiration for this assignment.
  • Written brainstorm responding to the questions outlined below.
  • Bring preliminary images to start working with (these may not end up being your final images so don't spend a lot of time processing them before brainstorming discussions).

  • Who are you and how does your artistic practice reflect that identity?
  • How does your presence on social media reflect that identity?
  • How do your friends reflect that identity?
  • How do your values reflect that identity?
  • Is there a difference between your internal and external self?
  • How do you present an image that communicates your personality?

Requirements for Project:

1. Find a way to use photoshop in conversation with your personal art practice. This could mean using photoshop to manipulate your photography, using scans of your handmade artwork as an element in this piece, or this could mean using photoshop as a drawing tool.

2. Using at least 30 Photoshop layers you will create an artwork that will complement or contrast your concepts of personal identity. This document may be the final artwork, or it may be something you choose to further manipulate manually.
*Your photoshop document will be handed in via google drive as part of the finished project.
Name your project: FirstName_LastName_Project1
Please upload your final PSD to this google drive folder

3. For the critique on 2/11 you will present an 11 x 17 artwork that uses both your personal art practice and photoshop. This can be an unaltered inkjet print or a transformed inkjet print.
Come to the critique with 3 questions prepared for the class to lead your critique.
Our critique will be in room 230J.
